Project Ideas for Networked Social Innovation

From The Greater IBM Social Network Wiki

Much like an open source community, Greater IBMers can pool the skills, resources and insights to do productive, collaborative work that will benefit all Greater IBMers or the wider world. What are some of the ways we might harness our collective wisdom to benefit our community or some worthy cause?

Currently a lot of work has been done by corporate entities to propagate technology into disadvantaged communities. There are many technology rooms sprinkled all over the country, perhaps the world. However, from my experience and research, many of the technology rooms lie little used or used for simple Internet surfing tasks. The reasons are many, including the fault of the communities themselves. However, there is also a great lack of content designed to stimulate education, creativity, communication, and economic development in disadvantaged communities. Thus the rooms fall into disrepair and disuse, finally being un-provisioned. Currently, we have a created a non-profit in the South Bronx, the TAMMI (Technology, Arts, Movie, and Micro-business Incubator)to re-provision such a room and provide content designed to stimulate creative and entrepreneurial efforts in homeless families with teenage and early 20s children. This is a new effort and in some parts is inspired by Richard Florida's "Rise of the Creative Class." Read more here - >[[1]]. Such efforts need to be introduced in many other places and would be worthy causes for IBMers and former IBMers.
